Farm Sanctuary SA aims to connection between farm animals and the food we eat. Why? The vast majority of animals that exist on the planet today are farmed animals. They do not live on idyllic farms from our childhood fairytales - they exist within industrialized facilities called ‘factory farms’. Deliberately hidden from public view, billions of sentient beings, each with complex sensations and emotions, are bred and tortured within these merciless operations and denied the basic freedom to exhibit their natural individual behaviors. Intensive animal farming production is also the leading cause of climate change - and where most pressing issues in the World seem impossible for an individual to influence change, climate change is one that we each can change simply by choosing what we eat. The most effective action that any individual can take is to adopt a plant-based diet. This act will also reduce wide-scale animal cruelty and motivate agribusiness to introduce sustainable alternatives to their existing meat and dairy products.
